In 1999, the Trustees of the then Perry Foundation gifted the University of Waikato $100,000.00 for a scholarship endowment fund. Each year, one graduate and three undergraduate scholarships are awarded.
In 2016, the POET Head Start Scholarships were introduced, to support students attending schools in which the Perry Outdoor Education programme is run. Further details about this scholarship and how to apply can be found below.
This application is open to students attending (or graduated in the last two years) schools in the Waikato in which Perry Outdoor Education Trust (POET) is operating:
This application is not available to previous recipients of POET Head Start scholarships
This scholarship will be offered on the basis of academic merit. The panel will also take in to consideration evidence of leadership potential, ability to work in a team, sporting involvement and achievements and community service.
As part of the application, applicants must explain how a scholarship would help them and why they are a good candidate. They may either submit a maximum 200 word essay and attach up to one page of bullet pointed additional information/achievements if necessary. Or they may upload a maximum 2 minute video clip which describes why they would be an excellent candidate for a scholarship.
Applicants must be NZ citizens who are intending on studying in the tertiary sector, in the Waikato.
